In Focus: Our Vancouver
March 11, 2009
Photography & Statement by: Bernie Lyon & Lee Bacchus
This sample of our work, generated largely as an ongoing project for our blog (splinterinyoureye.blogspot.com), is an attempt to represent the city in a way that is both more individual and more historical than those images and photos found in conventional, often commercial, visual depictions of Vancouver (postcards, calendars, tourist propaganda and print media etc.). While Bernie and I bring differing sensibilities to these images, we both feel a deep connection (often ambivalent) toward this ever-changing metropolis teetering at the edge of the world.
We are Bernie Lyon, a Vancouver illustrator, and Lee Bacchus, a Vancouver photographer/writer. Our work appears each month in myvancouver magazine (formerly Vancouver Lifestyles Magazine) and other publications. The Woodward’s photograph is a collaboration between Lee Bacchus and Brian Graham.

This is wonderful stuff. Bernie Lyons’ drawings are absolutely top drawer. That one of Georgia and Howe . . . wow. I look forward to more, and more of Lee Bacchus’ photos and stories, too.
